BrightAI has raised a $15M Series Seed round to scale its Physical AI platform — a breakthrough in AI-powered infrastructure that helps operators shift from reactive fixes to proactive, autonomous operations. By embedding intelligence into the physical world, BrightAI’s technology is transforming how critical infrastructure is inspected, maintained, and optimized.

A Mission to Modernize Infrastructure

Our mission is to modernize infrastructure management by using multimodal AI to anticipate and prevent failures before they happen. With $15 million in new funding led by Upfront Ventures, we’re unveiling the potential of our Stateful platform — read more on Upfront’s investment in BrightAI.

Today, 50% to 80% of infrastructure operating costs are tied to labor and truck rolls just to assess conditions. Without a clear picture of asset health, operators are often left scrambling to respond to power outages, water main breaks, bridge collapses, gas leaks, and even food contamination. These events can be avoided with access to real-time insights.

That data already exists — and now, Stateful puts it directly in the hands of field teams. Our platform turns fragmented infrastructure data into actionable intelligence that supports faster, smarter decisions.

Meet Stateful: BrightAI’s Physical AI Platform

Purpose-built for industries like water, energy, pest control, and manufacturing, our platform is already at work in the field. We’ve deployed over 250,000 active AI endpoints and 25,000 AI-powered locations — more than Starbucks stores in the U.S. BrightAI reached $80 million in revenue while operating in stealth mode and without raising outside capital. Until now.

Stateful captures exclusive, real-time data that no other system can access. This data powers multimodal AI models that detect issues before they escalate. As a result, teams can make confident dispatch decisions and prevent unnecessary delays. With BrightAI, workers show up equipped with insights equivalent to 30 years of experience on day one. That means fewer failures, lower costs, and stronger infrastructure resilience.

1️⃣ Asset & Site Visibility

Imagine having 24/7 monitoring, diagnostics, and automated dispatch at your fingertips. Stateful provides continuous visibility into infrastructure conditions, empowering teams with real-time insights to anticipate and resolve issues before they escalate.

2️⃣ Workforce Wearables & Copilots

With our AI-powered wearable solution, field workers receive real-time guidance and reporting. They’re also supported by a comprehensive knowledge graph. These tools help crews make faster decisions and stay fully informed in the field.

3️⃣ Autonomous Inspection

Using autonomous robotics and drone systems, Stateful automates complex, repetitive, and risky tasks. It increases inspection accuracy and frequency while reducing operational risk.

A New Era of Resilient Infrastructure

For leaders of critical infrastructure, these capabilities unlock the ability to:

  • Move from reactive to proactive management
  • Empower field teams with data-driven tools
  • Scale inspections with greater safety and lower costs

Already deployed across water, power, energy, transportation, pest control, HVAC, and critical home services, BrightAI is transforming how major industries manage and maintain infrastructure. Today, large, traditional businesses can evolve into data-driven operating systems of their own. They now have access to tools that were once reserved for billion-dollar tech companies.

Our technology is leading this shift. It replaces outdated, reactive methods with proactive, AI-powered precision. With this $15M seed round, we’re scaling the BrightAI Physical AI platform to serve new industries, expand into more regions, and support businesses of all sizes.

Founder’s Thoughts: Doug Burman on Bringing Tech to Non-Tech Industries

BrightAI Founders Thoughts

For decades, countless human-centric companies have missed out on the major tech innovations that fuel transformation.

Too often, these businesses overlook the possibilities tech solutions bring. Plus, they are almost always ignored by tech brands that cater to highly tech-savvy audiences. Now, BrightAI is changing all that.

We talked to Doug Burman, one of BrightAI’s founders, about his long-time dream of bringing tech solutions to non-tech brands. From solving problems that stump top executives to transforming the way field technicians operate, Doug and his team at BrightAI are helping transform non-tech businesses so they can become leaders in their industries.

How is BrightAI’s focus on innovative solutions different from most other tech companies?

Right now there’s this large gap between non-tech brands and tech brands. BrightAI is really good at helping hands-on, personal touch companies discover how tech can work for them.

Some of our partners are in long-running industries that have existed for a hundred years or more. They’re experts at squeezing the last drop of profit from their current model, but they have some blind spots around what is actually possible with the right tech solutions.

Since we understand how technological challenges play out in businesses quite well, it’s easy for us to envision solutions these companies can’t even imagine yet. So we can spot how non-tech companies can pivot to a better, simpler approach that increases profitability.

Why is it important for non-tech companies to embrace tech solutions?

Because if they don’t, their competitors will. We saw it happen recently with the huge success of Peloton. Stationary bikes used to be low-tech, but now Peloton has completely disrupted their industry.

We help prevent our partners from getting run over by technology by making sure they are running with it.

What kind of challenges come up when you bring tech solutions to non-tech companies, and how have you overcome them?

Whenever you bring tech solutions to a non-tech business, there’s a lot of learning on both sides. There’s a lot of interpersonal exchanges, site visits, and field work. We literally take a walk in someone else’s shoes to see how they view the world. And that’s been super helpful.

For example, we have partners who employ expert hands-on mechanics. These are master tradesmen, but they may not have much experience installing tech. We’ve taken learnings from how they approach problems, and we share our knowledge on how tech tools can make their lives easier.

BrightAI brings this human touch to every level of every project. The problems an executive faces are very different from the problems the technicians in the field face. So to find innovative solutions for the whole business, we engage across the entire scope of each company—from high-level execs to branch managers to field techs.

How would you describe BrightAI’s company culture?

Our company dynamic is one where we push enablement. We hire really good people. We trust their opinions, and we value their voice. We want them to be able to push forward and make really interesting decisions in their space.

BrightAI is very cross-disciplined. We have leading experts on mobile apps, website front-ends, cloud scaling, the edge people, hardware development, and more. We purposely structure our teams to cross disciplines, so there’s no hard line between any of our experts. For example, people who work in cloud and people who work in edge work together side-by-side.

Everyone on our team is so qualified and so established in their own area. But since they work so closely with experts from other departments, they get to constantly learn new things. Everybody is stretching their brain, and they are so excited to get paid to learn. Our engineers enjoy figuring out how the pieces come together to achieve higher level intelligence, and this seems to really light up everyone on our team.

How will BrightAI scale?

One of BrightAI’s main goals is to uplift society to new levels of capability—and not just the tech portion of society. I spent most of my career helping the Uber nerds. A lot of technology exists to serve the tech savvy. Now I’m really excited to help everybody. A question we ask ourselves a lot at BrightAI is “how do we uplift the bulk of people to have a better existence on the planet?”

So this year specifically, we are working on a platform that serves multiple needs across multiple industries. We want to create value for the individual doing their wash in a laundry room. We want to help an installer work through the different problems they face in the field. We want to help business owners streamline their operations.

BrightAI understands how tech innovations make all this possible, and it’s our goal to enlighten others. By providing the right tools, we help businesses become more profitable—not by adding more customers or locations, but simply by making their existing systems more efficient. In turn, these solutions help both their employees and their customers. Our company ethos is that we all want to do things that help out humanity as a whole.

Founder’s Thoughts: Nathan Hanks on AIoT, Business Transformation, and BrightAI’s Mission

Founders Thoughts with Nathan Hanks text on background with headshot of nathan hanks

BrightAI is merging Artificial Intelligence and IoT to create “AIoT” and it’s creating once unthinkable possibilities across all industries.

AI is only as good as the data it’s fed. Now, thanks to better-than-human sensing, we’re able to utilize the power of AI in ways that were simply not possible before. From increased productivity to life-saving innovations, AIoT is a powerful tech duo. And it’s set to pave the way for major changes in standard business operations.

Nathan Hanks, one of BrightAI’s founders, sat down with us to share his thoughts on how this evolution will transform businesses. Here’s what he had to say.

How do you see AI and IoT driving change in the next five to ten years?

I think we are going to see AI and IoT – or AIoT – used together to unleash a lot of human productivity. We are going to start to see very tough work that people either don’t want to do, or isn’t even safe to do, disappear.

Think about industries like pest control, where people go around and spray poisons. That can put a technician at risk if they are exposed to large amounts of dangerous chemicals over a long period of time. With BrightAI’s better-than-human sensing, we can pinpoint exactly where a technician needs to spray. This helps drastically reduce the amount of chemicals they use. That’s better for the technician, the business, and the environment. So it helps keep people safe and allows businesses to redeploy their best talent. These freed-up workers can be used to go after bigger opportunities, helping businesses become more competitive players in their market.

I think AIoT will also transform the consumer experience. Think about all the times you’ve waited in a long line at the market just to buy one or two things. Now, innovations in AIoT allow you to grab what you need and walk out. With better-than-human sensing, you can skip the line and still be accurately charged for the items you buy.

What is the BrightAI leadership team’s purpose?

Even though there’s a lot of invention that goes on at BrightAI, the real purpose of our team is to help companies improve their businesses. We’re creating a platform that helps all businesses become more productive so that their customers have better experiences.

Our goal is to harness all the different technologies people need to become leaders in their industry and make them easy-to-use and adoptable for any enterprise. We’re democratizing access to cutting-edge tech that many companies don’t even realize is available to them.

I think what is most exciting about our team is that we have a group of really smart people that have the exact experience needed to help get AIoT technology to businesses. We all have very different backgrounds, but everybody has this distinctive superpower of excelling at both business development and tech innovation.

What are some of the benefits businesses get from working with BrightAI?

We’ve seen our technology drive entire businesses forward. AIoT transformations are better for the customer, meaningful for employees, and more profitable for businesses.

The first benefit is the money companies immediately save. One example is that BrightAI can transform the performance of machines businesses already use. So instead of having to throw away old equipment and start with something new, we can improve productivity for a really small price. Suddenly the incredible cost constraints executives were up against are gone, and they can grow their business at a faster rate.

But these technologies unleash so much opportunity, that the benefits go beyond making companies run better. Every time we transform a business, we see a second order effect. The improvements we’ve implemented are also transformative for both the workers and the customers of that business.

We’ve seen it when pool companies reduce the drowning risk for children. We’ve seen it when pest control employees step away from using toxic sprays. We’ve seen it when someone doing laundry doesn’t need to worry about running out of quarters anymore.

Why does BrightAI look to partner with Private Equity firms?

When investors think about cutting-edge technology, most focus on things like crypto, NFTs, or genetics. They completely overlook what we call the “hidden gem” businesses.

These are products and services that people rely on every day – like air conditioning, food, and home services. They’re often delivered by huge, but private, companies. And many of them are PE owned or backed businesses.

These types of businesses impact every part of our lives, yet many investors ignore them. So, these hidden gems are just sitting there, waiting to be transformed by digital operating models. BrightAI’s AIoT transformations can turbocharge their power. And when these businesses become digitized, they have incredible enterprise value creation.

So, with our help, these businesses can turn out to be some of the most interesting assets that exist in the world. We find that both the owners and the executives of these companies make really incredible partners, even if they’re not deep technology people.
